This year Surdex celebrates its 60th anniversary. Fifty years ago, in early 1954, Surdex became the first commercial aviation tenant of Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Missouri (metropolitan St. Louis). Surdex has grown with Spirit Airport over the past 50 years and today employs over 80 people and operates 10 aircraft.
Founder Earl R. Hoffmann grew up with a love for aviation. He began his flying career as a pilot in Naval Aviation and still flies today.
A decade before moving the Spirit Airport, in 1954 Earl formed Surdex Corporation. “Surdex” is a compilation of SURvey, Design and EXploration. Starting with one aircraft and a high quality aerial survey camera, Surdex has grown to become a national leader in geospatial aerial mapping services.
Today Surdex provides complete geospatial solutions for states, counties, and the federal government as well as private industry throughout North America.
